I recently had to wear a form fitting dress for a photoshoot and found myself trying to figure out how to hide my ‘carb baby’ aka my ‘kangaroo pouch.’
As I tried to come up with a solution I remembered overhearing a celebrity’s similar struggle which resulted in the use of spanx and tape. Sounds crazy right? I thought so too until I needed to cover up my little kangaroo pouch. So in the 9th inning (aka the shoot was in 2 hours) I did an at home test to determine which method worked best.
The Tape & Spanx vs. Spanx on Spanx test.Supplies:
Black Double tape (figured extra strength tape never hurt anyone)
Spanx
Dress – Zara, $19.90, available in dark grey or black
Shoes – Jessica Simpson, Size 11, Nordstrom Rack, runs small – sold out online on Nordstrom Rack.com, Alternative = Chinese Laundry, Socialite pump, $31.99
I. Dress with no tape or spanx.
Which do you think looks best?
I definitely preferred the double spanx method. It tightened and created a smooth surface. The tape is a complete ‘no-go’ unless you’re a master taper wizard of some sort. I also tried (not pictured) to wear spanx (1st layer) plus tape (2nd layer) plus another spanx (3rd layer) but the lines from the tape were still visible. The tape would have won if the lines from the tape were not visible (made my hips a bit more noticeable).
Update: Image of the two types of spanx I wore together.

Thanks, Christine. Glad you liked the post and dress/shoes. Will add info on where to get the shoes. 🙂

You look amazing!Tape sounded like a good idea but executing it is hard. The spanx on spanx proved most loyal with undetectable lines and a smoother finish. My pouch deters me from wearing solid colors because they highlight it. I have doubled up before and had good results as long as I didn’t have to do a speech lol (breathing restrictions).

Thanks, Tiffany. You are so right. Tape seemed like a good idea in theory but not so great in real life. Lol at ‘breathing restrictions.’ Thanks for being a part of the TALL District community.
