The ‘Taraji’ Affect

February 6, 2019

This past Monday I saw a screening of ‘What Men Want‘ starring Taraji P. Hensen.

She plays Ali Davis, a leading sports agent at a majority owned sports agency. Like the name ‘Ali’ implies she’s a hard hitter in a very male centric profession. Being a hard hitter doesn’t seem to be enough to make partner until she gets a break when she hilariously gains the ability to read men’s mind. It’s a comical journey through self-awareness, love, and success. Treat yourself and go see this funny, witty movie. It’s definitely a girls night out kind of movie.

So how does this story of Taraji, who is not tall, relate to us? It actually has little to do with her actual height and everything to do with how she ‘Stands Tall’ despite the constant attempt of others to knock her down and make her feel like she doesn’t belong in the sports agency ‘boys club.’ Much like how we tall women feel when it comes to how tall men are treated versus how tall women are treated. Their height is seen as a gift. They are seen as strong leaders while tall women are seen as an anomaly and are often referred to as aggressive or more masculine due to their height. #DoubleStandard

Not only did Taraji stand #TALL she looked amazing while doing it. She wore her business attire with #confidence. The outfits (dresses, blazers, skirts, bags) were flattering, well tailored, and classic with an edge.

I was inspired to find a dress that was chic, tailored or at least looked tailored. I think I found it in a fully lined, v-neck, half-n-half Fame & Partners dress called ‘The Everly.’ Pictured below.

Note: Sizing – I am typically a size 8/10. I ordered a size down to get this fit (wearing a size 6). It is 49″ from shoulder to hem line.

Available via ‘Rent The Runway‘ for $45. Also available if you are an unlimited member of #RTR.

Share your thoughts in the comment section. Was this post helpful? Are you planning on going to see What Men Want which hits movie theaters on Friday, February 8th?

P.S. – I asked what #Tall men want on Tall District’s Instagram page and the responses were pretty spot on. A lot of women responded that tall men ‘want’ shorter women. While the men said they want clothes that fit and for people not to ask them to reach for items located on the top shelf.

Tall Blessings,
