Description
Each day this week I will share one to two stories leading up to Mother’s Day. The purpose for TALL District’s Mommy Affect Series is to honor moms who make a difference in our tall lives. It also provides an opportunity to shed light on the ‘tall’ impact that mothers and mother figures of all heights (short, tall, average) have on their tall daughters ‘height experience’ and confidence.
Introduction
Allow me to introduce mommy and daughter duo 5’9” Annie and 6’1” Amber (TALL Glass of Style blog), respectively, from Atlanta, Georgia and Patterson, New Jersey.

Moms Impact
My mother has always encouraged me to love all of the things that make me different and being tall was the main topic of discussion. She knew I was getting bullied in school but she always had an encouraging word and showered me in love and support. It took a long time to really love my height but through my struggles my mother was right there by my side.

Activities to Create Normalcy
My mother encouraged and supported everything I wanted to do so it didn’t matter if I ran to her to sign a dance team application or wanted to take painting classes if she saw it influenced me positively she made sure to support me through it.
Takes a village: Women who had a lasting Impact
My aunt Pam is the same height as me and seeing her dress stylishly, and take the world on with full force really motivated me to love being tall and dressing well.
Interaction with Tallistas
My mothers encouraging spirit and living out loud has helped me help my fellow young Tallistas to really own their height. My mother has never found a need to fit in or to turn down a good heel just to fit in and that empowerment and strength has been instilled in me. I want to live my life out loud and encourage my fellow younger tall women to do the same in their lives.
“Embrace your difference” – Amber
Recommendations from one Tallista to another
The advice i would give to my Tallistas is to “EMBRACE YOUR DIFFERENCE” Height is a blessing and a tool to STAND OUT in a sea of normal and though it may be hard it’s something that puts you ahead of the curve. Jokes come from the root of insecurity and those trying to laugh at what makes you different usually wish they had that blessing. You are beautiful just the way you are and celebrate that.
Message to Mom
I am proud to be the daughter of such a strong woman. My mother has been a powerful strength in my world and has really given me everything I need to become the woman I am today and achieve all of the goals I set in my life. Watching my mother work her hands to the bone as a single mother and still going out looking her best and encouraging me to be a good human has motivated me to be the best woman I can be.

Thank you, Amber for sharing your mom with us. She did an amazing job. You are brilliant, creative, the epitome of what Tallista was created to mean when I came up with the term, and a beautiful/confident spirit.
