It’s the most wonderful time of the year (I totally sang the lyrics, did you?). Well it can be for some of us. For others, not so much. Especially if your goal or hope is to receive a gift that fits or at least comes remotely close to something you need, like, or want as a tall person. On the other hand this time of the year can be a pain in the peach for you because you have no idea what to get the tall person or multiple tall people on your list.
Stress no more. Tall District, a fashion and lifestyle blog for tall men and women I created a few years back, is here to save the day with a guide for the gift giver and the tall gift receiver. A guide sparked by the ‘From One Height Goddess to Another’ podcast conversation where founder Lameka Weeks of Height Goddess, a tall clothing brand for women, and I discuss what people should know when shopping for a tall person and where they can find those gifts. Listen to the podcast here. I promise you’ll laugh and get some great tips in the process.
Sooooooo, what should people know when buying gifts for tall people?
- Height
- Sizes – Inseam (pant length, know if they are wearing heels or boots), Bust (tops/dresses), waist, shoes (width – regular/wide).
- Social Media Handle(s) (page names)– great clues/guide for gift ideas, clothing and non-clothing related. Likes – If you have time check out the brands they follow, and pages or posts (Instagram shows you what posts people you follow like) they like. Maybe they’re not that into fashion and prefer experience related gifts.
- What They Like (if no social media presence)– I know this one seems like a no brainer so consider it a friendly reminder. Maybe they like art so you could gift them a museum pass, ticket to see a performance, or maybe they travel a lot for work or leisure which would make a luggage handle extension a great gift. A good idea, shared during the podcast ‘For One Height Goddess is to write down things your tall person likes throughout the year on a note card or in you notes app on you phone so that you can reference them more easily
- The Difference Between Long/Extra Long versus Tall. When shopping for clothing always check the inseam (pant leg) even if it says tall. Check the sizing chart as well.
- Big & Tall Sizing – Typically starts at a size large. If the tall guy on your list is slim try brands like American Tall, and 2 Tall.
Now onto the good stuff. Here are a few gift ideas for that special tall person on your gift list.
Note: This list contains gift ideas for both women and men.

- Gift cards can be fun. Let’s say you really wanted to buy the tall person on your list some clothing or want them to experience the awesomeness of shopping online or in store for clothing that fits. Grab a gift box. Add a note or a card that says something to the tune of “I know how hard it is for you to find something you like that fits. So this year I opted to give you a gift you can pick for yourself. Here are a few places you can find tall items (reference list below). Then gift wrap the box and place it with the other gifts. Try a Visa, Discover, or American Express (can be found at Walgreen or CVS). It will allow them to shop with just about any brand of their choice.
