This is the second year I’ve had a fab time getting all dressed up for Posh’s (special events group) St. Patrick’s Day ‘Day Party’ in Chicago. Here’s what I wore last year.
This year my goal was to create a 1950’s retro look with 2015 style and comfort. Every outfit has an inspiration piece. My inspiration piece was a June Ambrose nude colored faux leather skirt I ordered from HSN on sale for $69.95 (previously $99).
After the skirt arrived I went to a thrift store on Belmont Avenue (between Halsted and Clark) in Chicago that is known for having great finds for special occasions such as St. Patty’s Day. I found the sleeveless ‘NBA Celtics look alike’ jersey ($22), a green sweater ($20), and a plaid/pleated skirt($22) as a back-up to the faux leather skirt at the thrift store. I purchased some accessories that I decided not to wear (head wrap and wristband) as well.
The next day I had to decide whether I wanted to wear heels or flats. Well, I recalled how my feet were screaming bloody murder after last year’s party so i had to find an alternative to the white or black open toe heels I bought from Smash shoes (shoes go up to size 13, wide available).
So I set out on a mission to find a pair of gym shoes that would complete the look. I had success at a shoe store called Succezz with the help of Theo. If you’re ever in Chicago stop by Succezz and ask for Theo. He was helpful and very patient with my indecisiveness. They have very cool shoes including the Celtic Retro 7’s I purchased.
The details:

The head wrap – look familiar? You guessed it. It was the skirt I purchased from the thrift store. I cut some of the fabric and turned it into a head wrap with a knot. I took the fabric, placed it around the base of my head then tied the loose ends into a knot. Voila…head wrap!
