Closet Staple: The Blazer

July 30, 2014

Tallistas,

This post is short and sweet.

Every woman, whether she’s an entrepreneur, lawyer, financial professional, athlete, representative of a team, franchise, organization or brand, should own a black blazer or suit jacket. Young ladies, teens and college students, should own one as well. Why? Interviews (job and collegiate).

Every woman should have a tailored jacket that they can look sharp in when wearing it as as a suit, make it business casual by wearing the jacket as a blazer with a pant or skirt of a different fabric, over a dress, or with a pair of jeans.

Always keep a tailored Black blazer in your closet. It is a closet staple.

Tailoring = IMPORTANT. Unless you are the same shape, height and size as the fit model (model whose size and measurements are used) used to create a garment of clothing you will need some tailoring.

Pro Tip:
Tailoring can make an inexpensive suit look expensive. It also makes you look polished. It speaks for you upon entry before you say a word.

Here is a picture of how I sharpened three different business casual looks by adding a blazer.10544402_868578636504677_627224948856524000_n

Blazer 2 (3rd picture) = Suit Jacket by Theory purchased at Neiman Marcus (did not need tailoring, rarely happens)

What’s the difference between a blazer and a suit jacket?
1. Female blazers are often pocket-less and/or buttonless or only have one button.
2. However, suit jackets can be worn as a blazer when paired with casual clothing.
3. Female suit jackets tend to have 2 to 3 buttons, front pockets, and are typically made of finer fabrics.

Note: Sometimes the lines are crossed making it difficult to differentiate between a blazer versus a suit jacket.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have of me?
