Happy St. Patrick’s Day – Green attire for a green holiday

March 18, 2014

Happy St. Patrick’s Day Tall’s.

I celebrated two days early and had a blast doing so in a very ‘Posh’ way. Chicago’s entertainment group, Posh Entertainment, held their second annual St. Patty’s Day ‘day party’. The party was a success and so was my fun outfit! The icing on the cake is that one of my fave Tallista’s, Diamond, is a part of the Posh Entertainment group and we were able to snap a few fun pics together.

To say it was fun putting my look together for the day party would be an inadequate way to describe the process. I was so happy that something I envisioned came to life. It took a few stores, an online order, and mixing of high end with thrift store finds. I originally envisioned green pumps, distressed boyfriend jeans, and a green fitted shirt or loose knit jersey sweater.

The SHOES:

1. I spent a week looking for green shoes. I came across a fab pair by Aminah Abdul Jillil. Unfortunately they were on back order. Super Sad face.

2. After considering jewelry and the St. Patrick’s Day theme I decided I wanted to rock a pot of gold on my feet aka a pair of gold metallic pumps. lol. Now I just had to find a pair and I did. Scoredddddd. Thank you Neiman Marcus and Michael Kors. I liked them so much I got them in gold and silver. Double scored with over night delivery. 2-3 day delivery is free.

Note: I did have a pair of back up pumps in nude that would have sufficed as well (Nine West size 12). Pictured later in the post.

The JEANS:
So I’m 6’0 tall and I could not find a pair of distressed boyfriend jeans or fitted jeans that were long enough. Suprised? Not at all. Immediately went into improvisation mode.

What did I do?
1. Asked my baby brother if he would distress a pair of jeans for me. He’s really good at it but he’s a teenager and is still becoming acquainted with his entrepreneurial capabilities with a bit of a push from his big sister. He said yes!

2. Found a pair of distressed jeans I liked from Marshalls under $30. Purchased them so he could see what I wanted.

3. Went to the thrift store aka the Salvation Army and purchased a pair of mens jeans for $6.99. Yes, $6.99. Unfortunately I didn’t have time to try them on. When I got them home they were more fitted than I liked. Like pancake booty fitted and that’s not cute.

4. Did a little closet hunting and found a pair of fitted Gap jeans that were perfect. #BINGO

5. Voila! Amazing work my little brother did. Want a pair. Contact him. You can email me and place distressed jeans in the subject line. His name is Marco.

The SHIRT:

1. I did some online hunting but decided I wanted to try it before I bought it.

2. I was on my way to Marshalls after picking my baby sister up from school when I remembered a store called Strange Cargo where they actually do screen printing on shirts. Best choice ever. I knew it was when I saw this in the window.

Talk about funny!

3. My baby sister and I browsed the merchandise. I picked one of two shirts I was considering. Placed my order for a personalized shirt then tried on a few sunglasses and shopped around with baby girl to kill time. Fun, efficient and I found a pair of cool glasses. I actually wore a pair with my look. Nonetheless, shirt was ready in less than 20 minutes (this shirt ended up being a big seller for the Tallista) brand.

Baby girl purchased a shirt for her and her best friend who is actually half Irish. They wore it to school.

4. The final product. Many thanks to the gentleman that helped me pick the shirt for my “Lucky Tallista” brand and many many thanks to my baby brother Marco for taking the time to make my distressed jeans that were absolutely fab. If you need a pair of jeans distressed he’s your guy. Send me an email and I will put you in touch with him. Ask for Marco. [email protected].

4. The bedazzles were extra. I made a pit stop by Michaels and purchased a gold shimmery tape and faux gem adhesive strip. I used a glue gun to permanently place them onto the shirt and jazz up my fave number (the bday) #10.

The JEWELRY:

1. My recent purchases from jewelry designer Christopher Augmon were right on time. I wore the vertebrae necklace, a green bracelet with silver zipper and white bracelet with gold zipper.

The gold vertebrae necklace can be seen in the pictures below. It’s the longer of the two. I used the bracelets as a cool way to make up for the difference between my wrist and jacket sleeve.  Bangles and bracelets are a tall girls best friend.

2. The earrings.
I found a few pair of earrings, a pair of jeans and a great Talbot 3/4 sleeve camel colored pea coat and only spent $18.54 at the Salvation Army.

Back to the earrings. This may be the best deal I’ve ever gotten on a pair of fab earrings. How do you say $2.99. Yes, $2.99.

After my Dream Builder Mastermind group meeting one of my group mates, Zita Stephens, blessed me with her Make-Up artistry skills with limited supplies. You read right. She did this on the spot using my limited supplies  (Armani foundation, Lancome mascara, Bobbi Brown blush, mac lip gloss, bobbi brown brow pencil and eye shadow) and basic brushes. I forgot my primer and concealer making it a much tougher task.
