Model Atelier: Chanèl Chic for Tallistas (Bonus: Interview with founder Robin Harris)

January 6, 2015

Variety is the spice of life. Cliché maybe but we Tallistas are multi-dimensional with places to go and people to be seen by. It’s kind of inevitable. Luckily, there are a growing number of brands for Tallistas. The newest ‘Tall’ on the block is all about chic statement pieces with a focus on high quality.

Join me in welcoming Model Atelier!

TDMA-002
Model Atelier (studio), founded by 6’0″ entrepreneur, model, and mommy to be Robin Harris, is a chic and sophisticated brand designed specifically for women 5’9″ and above. This past holiday season Model Atelier made the inaugural capsule collection available via pop-up shop in the 900 N. Michigan Avenue Shops in Chicago. Don’t fret. If you missed the pop-up shop in Chicago or you are not located in Chicago Model Atelier’s pop-up may be in a city near you this year. The next pop-up shops will travel to major cities in the US and abroad. You can also shop the collection online.

About the clothing:

Think classic chic Chanèl for Tallistas that ‘fits’ in length and proportion. The kind of statement pieces you could find on models and us regular tall women on and off the runway.

The weight of the fabric, length (36″ inseam pant but has extra hem for #tallistas that need a 38″ and 27.5″ to 28″ sleeve length) and fit are what drew me to Model Atelier’s inaugural caspule collection. The ability to transition pieces from work to evening and turning heads while doing so is what will keep me coming back.

Note:
For those of us with a bit of a pouch as shown in the last picture I would suggest going a size up and getting it tailored in the hips or wearing supportive undergarments. This applies to the floor length ‘A la mode’ skirt and Haute pant.

Bonus Shopping:
When a Model Atelier pop-up shop is in your city you can look forward to tailoring, trending colors for your nails via LVX nail polish, and make-up. If you’re inseam is longer than 36″ Robin made sure to build in enough extra hem to get you to 38″ inseam. She can also have a pant made in 40″ via special order or lengthen the sleeves for Tallistas 6’2″ and taller.

Did you miss the Model Atelier fashion show? Not to worry. During the holidays Model Atelier debuted additions to the inaugural capsule collection that are photographed below. I had the pleasure of getting behind the scene and up close photos to share with you.

One piece in particular, the red high slit skirt, would be fab for a Valentine date. Dress it up or down. Throw on a white tee or tank, a leather jacket, and sexy closed toe black pump to dress it down or pair it with a fancy top for a black tie affair, date and/or dance.

So much emphasis is always but on length of pants and so many designers forget about the tops…
Being tall usually yields long legs and arms. Just a thought.

      Hello Tallista Joy,

Thanks for sharing your feedback. I added the sleeve length of the shirt and jackets shown in the Model Atelier post and will keep your suggestion in mind for future posts.

      TALL Blessings,
      J. Enovy
