It’s that time of year. Summer is in the rear view mirror and Fall is the next exit. If you’re in the Midwest you have experienced the transition. Luckily the weather is a bit bipolar warming up here and there for us.
Today’s post is a guide to transitioning your maxi dress from summer to fall with items you already own.
Let’s dive right in.
Summer Basics: The maxi and sandal
The maxi dress was a closet staple this summer and can be worn well into November or early parts of fall given the weather is around 55 – 60 degrees.
I purchased the maxi dress pictured above from at Shop Standout Style boutique here in Chicago late in the summer. The BCBG Generation sandals were purchased late in the Spring or early summer at a Nordstrom Rack in Dallas, Texas.
Note: I suggest using the heavier weighted maxi dresses you own for warmth on fall days. You can wear sandals or a cute bootie with cut-outs.
The Maxi dress: Taking it from ‘Summer to Fall’
It’s all about layering. I layered the maxi dress shown below with a long cardigan, infinity scarf, saddle bag, necklace, bracelet, and hat for a complete summer to fall transition look.
Side Bar: Aren’t these editorial photo’s amazing. Brandon Best, fellow Florida A&M University (FAMU) School of Business graduate, has exceptional photography skills. So happy we connected. You can find him on instagram at elite_visions.
Accessories: Where to find them.
Bracelet = Akira. Shop Akira accessories at shopakira.com
Necklace = Nordstrom Rack
Here are two cute alternative necklaces from Francesca’s and Nordstrom Rack. Other great spots for inexpensive statement jewelry include Forever 21, Express, H&M, Francesca’s, Nasty Gal and Akira.
Scarf = Found in my closet; a purchase from last fall.
I found this cute green and blue hand-made scarf on etsy.com.
Hat = Nordstrom Rack. Alternatives found at Nordstrom rack and nastygal.com. Less expensive hats can be found at target, TJ Maxx or Marshals.
Saddle Bag = H&M, $17,95
Cardigan = Item from my closet. Another item whose origination escapes me. However, I did find two substitutes. One from H&M, the other from Long Tall Sally ($209).
