Lululemon – The TALL Side (Men and Women)

October 6, 2014

During my recent visit to Orlando, Florida I trekked over to Millennium Mall to find stores that catered to TALL consumers. I found more stores than I expected but Lululemon was my favorite find.

Why? For starters, my bestie who is on the shorter side, ok in her defense she is 5’5.5″ but tall in spirit, loves Lululemon. Her lunch tote is a Lululemon black, red and white bag that she uses every day of the work week.

She even has a Lululemon briefcase and a scarf. Over the top, yes, but that is apparently what happens when one catches the Lulubug (yeah I made that up…lol). Interestingly enough, given our height difference (I’m 6’0″ tall), I never considered Lululemon as an option for me. Boy was I wrong.

To start, the service was great. I walked in and Curtis was helpful from the start. I asked him if Lululemon carried longer length sporting attire for women who are 5’10” and taller, and/or men who are 6’3″ and taller. He said yes to both questions then proceeded to show me the inseam chart for women as well as the display with longer inseams for tall women and men. The inseam for women goes up to 35″. The inseam for men goes up to 36″.

Note: There is a sliding scale for Tall women at Lululemon. A Tall size extra small or small has a a 34.5″ inseam versus the standard 35″ inseam for tall pants. This is more common practice than I knew. The old adage that you learn something new everyday remains true. I noticed a similar sliding scale at Abercrombie as well as Urban Outfitters.

Why is there a sliding scale? Curtis from Lululemon explained that the sliding scale is based on prior sales as well as a deeper understanding of the tall woman’s anatomy (point for Lululemon for caring enough to do the research). Basically, tall women appear slimmer than we actually are. It is one of the many gifts of height. As a result, it is less likely that a tall woman will wear an extra small.

Curtis suggested I try on a pair of yoga pants. I love Yoga for the record so this was a no brainer. Plus, I live in Chicago and finding long enough yoga pants that are comfortable and thick enough to keep me warm during colder months like October-April is hard to come by.

The FIT

IMG_4320The Power Y Tank synched me in nicely. It is made of luon fabric which has great stretch, recovery and is breathable. It also has built-in-bra pockets with removable cups. The cups were not as beneficial for my girls. They are better suited for smaller ones. As a result, I would still wear a sports bra for obvious reasons.

Bonus: It’s hip length. Aka we tall girls can rock this tank without worrying about our shirt not going past our belly button. I am wearing a size 6 which is true to size for me.

Cost: $52 USD

Loved the high-rise  waist on the yoga Astro Pant. It provided great support and landed on the more flattering area of my tummy. My sugar baby (name for my pudge) was well concealed. lol. These are great for Yoga, Pilates, the gym or in my case running errands. It actually looks nice enough for errands. Pair it with a nice fly away cardigan and tank and you’re cute and comfy. The pant is also made of the breathable luon material that the Power Y Tank is made of.

Not the most flattering photo. However, you can see the length of the pant as I am standing on my tippy toes and the hem is past my heel. You can also see how well the high-waisted yoga pant fits.

Cost: $98
Inseam: 35″

      Hi, Candie.

Happy New Year’s Eve! The Lululemon yoga pants I found a few years back is one of my absolute favorites. I checked the Lululemon website. Unfortunately, the yoga pant I wore is not available on their website. However, I did find a wide leg and slim yoga pant that is available in a 36″ inseam via Long Tall Sally’s website. Here is the link. I hope this helps.
