Yesterday evening I had the pleasure of attending the BOSS Network’s 5th year anniversary event. BOSS, founded by Cameka Smith, means Bringing Out Successful Sister and is one of the Top 10 networking organizations for women.
The guest of honor was Beverly Johnson, a talented Tallista who needs no introduction. She is a Modelpreneur, the first black woman to grace the cover of Vogue, and CEO of BJE, LLC.
The crowd of professional women also received tips, guidance, and inspiration from four featured speakers that participated in a panel discussion. They shared their stories (the ups and downs), their faith, and encouraged every woman in the room. It was a great renewal of the spirit and mind listening to this dynamic group of women which included Teneya Golston, fellow Florida A&M University graduate, Director of Marketing for Creme of Nature.
Each speaker, including Beverly Johnson, cited FAITH as the major contributor to their success. Their is just something about leaning on GOD that makes the bumps in the road feel like small pebbles instead of mountains.
Ironically, the most powerful statement I heard that evening was from someone I know, business coach Laura E. Knights (pictured below, center). She stood next to me during the panel discussion. As we listened to the speakers tell us about their trials and tribulations and the bumps in the road to success she turned to me and said “Beauty for Ashes,” referencing Isaiah 61:1-3. Some of us go through trials and tribulations that are exceedingly painful. The beauty is the refinement after the trial, hence “beauty for ashes.” We are made stronger, wiser, more resilient, and even more faithful if we just make it through.
Additional pictures from the event are below. Many beautiful Tallistas were present.
TALL Blessings,
J. Enovy
