Akira: Then & Now (Throwback Thursday)

May 22, 2014

Today’s Throwback Thursday is a nod to Akira Chicago.

Here are a few pictures of an infinity dress I purchased from Akira back in 2009. Yes, I have a thing for purple. LOL. It’s kind of my favorite color. Since my freshmen year at FAMU I’ve loved the color. My dorm room was known as the “purple dome.” I actually had a Compaq computer with the purple details on the stereo. My poor roommate. LOL. I digress. Back to the matter at hand. I wore the dress from Akira during a ‘hair’ photo shoot and a wedding in 2009.

Now, does Akira still carry infinity dresses in stock 5 years later?

Well, here is a picture of what my dressing room looked like as I tried to determine the answer for you.

Drumrollllll.

The answer is…….Yes.

Akira has long infinity maxi dresses in a variety of colors and patterns that are long enough for a women 6’2″ and under. See pictures below.

Multi-function Navy Maxi Dress, Akira, $69.90, 60″ inseam from shoulder to hem. You can adjust the dress resulting in greater length as you see in the picture. I am 6’0″ tall.

Then there were jeans.

I was quite shocked that these on trend, less than $60, distressed denim jeans that come in a variety of washes were long enough for my 6’0″ frame. I believe a woman up to 6’1″ can rock these.

P.S. – I love high waisted jeans with concave zippers. Enhance’s the limited backside I have and all assistance is appreciated. If you have a “some-timish” backside like mine then you understand my excitement about these jeans. I can go from bootylicious to barely plump pancake. Not cute I tell ya.

The T-shirt pictured is awesome as well. It’s long. Great for Tallistas with longer upper torso’s.

Note: Please forgive the colorful bra strap. I had to have support the girls while trying on garments. My girls are not a part of the “braless committee.” No ma’am. No sir. Not ever.

Here are a few additional ‘J. Enovy’ approved pieces for Tallistas available at Akira on State Street (between Randolph and Washington) in Chicago within the Block Thirty Seven mall.

Many thanks to store manager Flo for pulling anything that would work for my long legs. Many thanks to Joe from Akira shoes on State street for making the introduction and saying yes to an event for my Tallistas! More details coming soon.

check out the sleeve length on this dress. Fun color splatter and the ability of this dress to hide imperfections gets an A+ from me. Only $34.90.
