2014 Grammy’s: The ‘TALL’ of It All

How many of you watch the Grammy’s for fashion versus the thrill of finding out which musician receives an award? Yup. Me too.

I’m really guilty of watching to see what’s trending on the red carpet. Red carpet trends often translate into what you will see in stores (colors, silhouettes, accessories, etc., not necessarily the haute couture gowns themselves unless you’re shopping at Neiman Marcus or Bergdorf Goodman).

Here’s a quick look and description of what ‘Talls’ wore on the red carpet.

Tallistas wore shiny metallic, sheer material, white/nude/gold colors, blues, plunged necklines and floor length gowns with the exception of Nancy O’Dell who wore a dress showing off her long legs. Wave hello to Nancy O’Dell’s long legs because they looked great on the red carpet. #waveshello (pictured below)

Note: Other notable trends on the 2014 Grammy red carpet include scarlet reds (Pink/Tamar Braxton), sheer tulle (Katy Perry/Kacey Musgraves), and black & white (Paula Patton, Foxes).

Nancy O’Dell wore a short metallic dress with blue lining that appears to have given her the additional sleeve and skirt length needed. Mini’s are often too short on Tallistas (makes us look like our legs start at the base of our necks) but this hit the right length “note.”

Mr. Tall’s
Mr. Tall’s most prized accessory on the Grammy’s red carpet was the bow tie and I loved it. Just look at the pictures posted on the J. Enovy’s Tall District Instagram (jenovystalldistrict) & Facebook (J. Enovy’s Tall District) from the taping of Chicagonista Live (www.chicagonistalive.com) where I styled two Mr. Tall’s.

It also appears that many if not most of the musically inclined Mr. Tall’s  preferred the peak lapel (over the traditional ‘tuxedo’ shawl lapel) with luster (probably satin) or leather in the case of Wiz Khalifa. Totally J. Enovy approved. The traditional black tux & white button up maintained its position of prominence on the red carpet. However, LL Cool J brought a bit of “Prince” royalty to the stage with a purple velvet tuxedo jacket and Jay Z’s Tom Ford tuxedo jacket brought texture and depth which put his tuxedo jacket in a category of its own! Big thumbs up to Tom Ford and June Ambrose (Jay Z’s stylist).

Other Notable Trends: Blues – the 2014 Spring Color for men was visible (Julius – yes Beyonce’s bodyguard lol and Jazz singer Gregory Porter are good examples).

Note: Someone tell my darling Blake Shelton, standing at 6’5″, that he would look so dapper in a tuxedo. I get that he’s a country singer, hence the cowboy boots and jeans but come on Blake. You’re such a handsome man and I’m willing to bet you would look beyond handsome in a tuxedo. I hope to see you in one at the 2015 Grammys or any future award ceremony in 2014. Call me or email me.
